According to a research conducted by a team led by Dr. Stilianos E Kountakis, a specific protein profile present in the blood of patients suffering from chronic sinusitis may enable physicians to objectively diagnose and treat the disease. The study published in the March/April issue of the American Journal of Rhinology used surface enhanced laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectroscopy to assess protein expression in the blood. The research depicted that chronic sinusitis patients had a profile that was missing in 38 healthy people.
