With an increasing number of women getting cosmetic breast surgeries done at civic hospitals in Mumbai, Parel’s KEM Hospital is holding a day-long workshop on ‘aesthetic breast surgery’ for its doctors. Experts will conduct four live breast surgeries to offer exposure to post-graduate medical students and about 70 other plastic surgeons from across the country. In a tough economic environment, several patients are turning to scaled-down versions of face lifts to get some of the results of the traditional procedure without the traditionally larger price tag. Board-certified plastic surgeons at the New York Group for Plastic Surgery say that facial liposuction is quickly growing in popularity with patients who want noticeable results but cannot commit to taking much time away from work for recovery.

Innovative healthcare center, Better Body Solutions, has launched a non-surgical sculpting treatment called Body Lite Laser Treatment. This treatment reduces fat without the pain or downtime associated with liposuction. A “lunchtime” procedure, it consists of several 40-minute treatments over a period of one to three weeks and uses the Zerona laser, which was the recently studied by the FDA and proved safe and effective for emulsifying fat cells from patients’ target areas without side effects.

Cytori Therapeutics has received the patent protecting its Celution® System applications for generation of adipose tissue-derived stem and regenerative cell-enhanced fat grafts that may be used in a variety of cosmetic surgery procedures, such as breast reconstruction, facial applications etc. The patent strengthens the competitive position of Celution System in the cosmetic surgery market. Cytori also seeks to protect other applications of the Celution System. Additional patents for the use of Celution System in cardiovascular and orthopedic proceduress have been filed too.

Two new rule changes in Canada approved by College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) will stop a General Practitioner from advertising as a cosmetic surgeon so that people may be able to undergo cosmetic surgery with a trained professional. The practice of family doctors performing liposuctions and breast enlargements without proper training has been increasing in Canada.
