Mesynthes has introduced a tissue substitute for people suffering from tissue damage, burns and reconstructive surgeries. The company’s Endoform Dermal Template is an FDA approved ready-to-use tissue substitute that can be used for wound care and dermal reconstruction. The product will improve the rate and quality of healing. Mesynthes is also developing Endoform Infection Control for the prevention of infection if there is a high risk of post-operative infection.

United Holdings Group has created 11 apps, available on the iTunes App Store the first week of January 2010, that claim to help with the anti-aging process. The main one will have 10 Color-Light and Sound Therapy treatments to deal with wrinkles, acne, cellulite, joint pain, sleep disorder and hair growth stimulation. The healing strategy purports to use wavelengths of light and sound to stimulate cells to produce collagen and elastin, resulting in firmer skin.

Solta Medical, Inc. has announced its European launch of the Fraxel re:store Dual laser system with the recent CE Mark approval. The new Fraxel re:store Dual system is optimized for both facial procedures and large body areas to address clearance of pigmentation and other skin conditions all in a single treatment. This CE Mark joins the registration obtained in September for Solta Medical’s Thermage CPT, the most advanced non-invasive skin tightening and contouring procedure.

Solta Medical Inc has received approval from the FDA of a new version of its popular Fraxel re:store Dual Laser System to clear pigmentation and other superficial skin conditions. The device with a 1550 nanometer (nm) wavelength already has the regulatory approval for skin resurfacing and treatment of pigmented lesions and certain other skin conditions.

The FDA has approved Sanofi-aventis US’ anti-wrinkle product SculptraAesthetic for the correction of shallow to deep nasolabial fold, also called smile lines, contour deficiencies and other facial wrinkles with the appropriate injection technique in healthy patients. SculptraAesthetic works gradually to offer natural-looking results that can last up to two years.

The FDA has approved the use of Sculptra Aesthetic long acting facial filler that builds collagen. Sculptra Aesthetic (injectable poly-L-lactic acid) has been approved for use by a trained physician to correct shallow to deep nasolabial fold (smile lines) contour deficiencies and other facial wrinkles. The injectable dermal filler works gradually to offer natural-looking results that can last up to two years. The treatment was available in Europe for a decade.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given 510(k) clearance to Reliant Technologies Inc. for three novel Fraxel re:pair laser hand pieces. This enhanced potential of the Fraxel re:pair laser system will provide physicians with an option for surgical treatment and skin resurfacing. As part of the Fraxel re:pair Complete Fractional Ablative Workstation, all of the three surgical hand pieces can be used alone or along with each other, with no need to turn the system off for changing the hand pieces.

According to Medicis Pharmaceutical, the FDA’s waiver provisions for the generic versions of the company’s once-daily oral acne drug, Solodyn (minocycline HCl), will put patients at risk. The company is asking the FDA to approve Solodyn’s generic versions only after in vivo bioequivalence testing for drug strength.
